Excavator Bucket Armor

My client requested manufacturing drawings for custom armor plates that fit a large mining excavator bucket. The armor plates are welded to the interior and exterior of the bucket. These steel plates serve as wear material to protect the expensive bucket.

Since the armor plates need to be an exact fit I used a 3D laser scanner to capture the exact geometry of the bucket. I was then able to use Geomagic DesignX to create an exact matching model of the scanned bucket. This model was then used as reference to design all of the armor plates. All of the armor plates were designed using SolidWorks, which was also used to create detailed drawings ready to send for manufacturing.

The end deliverable was a drawing pack of 58 drawings and 3D models of a complete armor plate package designed to fit the clients excavator bucket along with material specifications and bill of materials.
